Dr. Newman has expertise culminating from 28 years as a board certified veterinary pathologist, having taught veterinary students and pathology residents for 15 years of those years. She has written over 85 publications, and several book chapters on "all things pathology". She has worked on virtually all species of animals, and in many settings. She is best known for her work on pancreatic disease in dogs, cancers of dogs and cats, immunohistochemical characterization of pet animal tumors, and a number of new disease entities in zoo animals.
